Update on The Northern Star AM stations.

AM 1611 The Sea and AM 5895 Radio Northern Star/The Sea came back on the air on Thursday, October 27th at 1702 and 2000 CET respectively after a long absence since December 15th, 2021.
A new technical team is now in place.

LLE-4 1611(400 watts of 2 kW possible) is running our Classic Country station “The Sea» through an inverted “V”.
LLE-3 5895 has a mix of Radio Northern Star(Classic and Pop favorites from both sides of the Atlantic) and The Sea(30 watts in AM mode, through another inverted «V».
The schedule is tentative for the moment and the transmissions must be considered as engineering tests:

1611 @1700-0015 CET
5895 @0530-0010 CET

The licenses runs out on New Year’s Eve, but new licenses has been applied for.
We verify correct reception reports for 1611 and 5895. And reports are very welcome, preferably with mp3 recordings and a clear ID to this email address only: 1000@northernstar.cc

The situation for LLE-2 1314 kHz is still uncertain.

RTVS shutting down medium wave.
The official statement from Rozhlas a televízia Slovenska appeared on the webpage. 1098 kHz from Nitra – Jarok and 702 kHz from Košice – Čižatice are shutting down for good on 31.12.2022.

“Termination of Slovak Radio’s medium wave broadcasting.

On 31 December 2022, Radio and Television of Slovakia will end the operation of medium-wave radio transmitters:
– NE Košice in the Čižatice location on a frequency of 702 kHz
– NE Nitra in the Jarok location on the frequency 1098 kHz

Both transmitters were used to broadcast the national broadcast of  Radio Patria  between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the evening. In the night hours, it was supplemented by the broadcasting of the RTVS  Rádio Devín program service .

Medium wave radio broadcasting accompanied its listeners for a long time – from 1926 to the present day.

Medium wave broadcasting was gradually replaced by FM broadcasting in the VHF band and listeners on medium waves gradually decreased.

Today, Slovak Radio is expanding its coverage in the T-DAB+ digital broadcasting standard in band III.

DX ON MEDIUM WAVES: Special broadcast of Radio Dechovka in the Czech Republic tonight from 8pm to 9pm CET via a vintage Tesla SRV1TR transmitter. He is revived for the occasion and will broadcast on the 792kHz frequency of Radio Decovka. This New Years Eve show will have radio fanfare. All amateur radio who send reports to the radio email address prani@radiodechovka.cz will receive a special QSL card dedicated to this event.
Beware, this transmitter is of low power, it has much inferior performance than today.

The only radio in Slovakia that broadcasts 24/7 folk groups, bandfares, brass orchestras, big bands.
The purpose of the radio is to preserve cultural heritage and raise awareness about brass music in order to attract new listeners, copper music fans.
They want to support and promote the popular culture and traditions of their region by ensuring the promotion of various festivals, concerts and, last but not least, to present their copper orchestras in neighboring countries.
